Fifty goals and 100 points – they are magical marks very few players have hit, but Mike Bullard reached both of those totals during his National Hockey League career.
Much earlier, Bullard’s talents were first on display as a member of the East Ottawa Vanier Voyageurs minor hockey team, which played in the 1974 edition of the famed Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament.
He went on to score 150 points with the Brantford Alexanders in junior hockey and was selected ninth overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1980 NHL draft.
Though he did average two fights per year, the man nicknamed Bully was known more for his scoring prowess during 11 NHL seasons.
Bullard owns the distinction of being the only player to score 50 goals with a last-place team. The league all-star was a bright spot for the Penguins in 1983-84, while serving as team captain in just his third full NHL season.
In 1987-1988, Bullard hit the 100-point plateau with 103 for the Calgary Flames, to finish 11th overall in the league scoring race.
He went to play for the St. Louis Blues, Philadelphia Flyers and the Toronto Maple Leafs before closing his NHL career in 1992, with a total of 336 goals and 694 points in 727 games.
Bullard went on to play another 10 years in Europe, mostly in Germany, and he then began his coaching career overseas. Bullard has since returned to Canada and is currently the Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations for the Caledonia Corvairs in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.
A 50-goal and 100-point scorer, and now you can add one more title to Mike Bullard’s resumé – a Hall of Famer.
