Érik Bédard grew up in Navan and developed into one of the top Canadian-born pitchers ever. He began with the Orléans Little League and defied some long odds to make it. He accompanied a friend to a tryout at Norwalk College in Connecticut and made the team as a walk-on. From there, the Baltimore Orioles drafted him and for a time, Érik Bédard was among the most dominant pitchers in baseball. He spent time with six different teams and played parts of 13 seasons in the majors finished with more than 1,200 career strikeouts.
